An Introduction to TCCT's Women's Rights Campaign

Everyone is entitled to fundamental human rights like safety, education, voting, and fair pay. Yet, around the world, women and girls continue to face systematic barriers and gender-based discrimination. While progress has been made, the fight for equality is far from over. Real change begins with awareness, conversation, and community action.

At the University of Ottawa, students are using their voices and platforms to challenge these barriers and promote inclusion. This year, we're focusing our collective efforts on raising awareness for women's rights. In the coming months, we will work with our local community to create a space for dialogue, education, and allyship, both on and off campus.

Our Partner: Amnistie internationale Canada francophone

Our campaign is proud to be aligned with Amnistie internationale Canada francophone, an organization dedicated to defending human rights and fighting injustice around the world. Amnesty's work on women's rights highlights the urgent need to protect individuals from gender-based violence, promote equal access, and ensure equality underpins our legal system.

Amnistie's long-term impact speaks for itself, with its Canadian Francophone branch established in 1978 and supported by over 11,000 members.

By collaborating with Amnistie, we aim to bring awareness to the University of Ottawa community - connecting students with the tools, resources, and information that empower them to make a difference for women's rights.

Our Contribution: Telfer Competitions Committee

As part of our commitment to community engagement and participation in Jeux du Commerce 2026, TCCT has chosen to champion the Women's Rights Pillar through advocacy, awareness, and an on-campus event.

Our mission is to transform awareness into tangible action. On October 13, 2025, we launched our bilingual hashtag campaign #TelferForWomen / #TelferPourElles. Our social media presence will highlight that women's rights are human rights and that everyone has a role to play in advancing equity.

Our on-campus event on October 24, 2025, at University Square will bring our message to life through interactive activities, collaboration with student organizations, and fundraising activities. Participants can join us for a day of advocacy, resource sharing and delicious treats from local food trucks. To close the event, we'll embark on an awareness walk through campus and a reflective social at Nox Eatery and Public House.

We look forward to embarking on our Women's Rights Awareness campaign to empower students to not only learn more about women's rights, but to carry the movement forward.

Join us in sparking conversation, igniting change and standing together for equality by using #TelferForWomen / #TelferPourElles.
